Selena Gomez explains why she went public with her relationship with Justin Bieber at the 2011 Vanity Fair party in LA on February 27, which she refers to as her Prom night.
Selena told Seventeen magazine, "I don't like hiding. I do like to keep certain things to myself, but at the end of the day, I'm eighteen, and I'm going to fall in love. I'm going to hang out with people, and I'm going to explore myself, and I'm okay with that."
In a wide ranging interview with the magazine, Selena also spoke about a past heartbreak, her friendship with Taylor Swift, and her current relationship with Demi Lovato.
The heartbreak came when Selena was just 15-year-old.
"I maybe had a first love and had my heart broken, but reflecting on it, I don't think that was love. I think that was just me being fifteen and going, 'Oh my gosh! I know I'm in love. I'm going to marry him'."
Selena says that as she is getting older her relationships are getting deeper.
She counts country star Taylor Swift amongst her five best friends, and says if she had the opportunity, Swift is the person she would pick to travel with on a fun trip to Paris, or Monte Carlo, where her upcoming film is set.
"I'd love to go on vacation with Taylor. I've been able to fly to Nashville to see her, and she'll come to LA a lot, but it'd be nice to get away," she said.
Asked about her current relationship with fDemi Lovato, Selena says she still shares a lot of love with the star who recently battled emotional issues.
"There's an amount of love that can never—no matter what—be taken away or torn apart, no matter the situation. There are certain people who you will always, always love, so if anything, this just reminded me of how much I truly love her."
