Justin Bieber Vanity Fair Cover A Bust

Alas, everything The Biebs touches doesn’t turn to gold after all….This is worst then the time we discovered that Santa Claus was just some fat dude with a bizarre obsession with red cashmere.

Justin Bieber may have the Midas Touch that inspires stampedes and sends gaggles of teen girls into mass hysteria, but the boy was a bust as Vanity Fair’s February cover guy. The 17-year-old pop star’s debut on the front of the glossy was the worst-selling issue in more than a decade, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations’ Rapid Report, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) said Tuesday. To put that into prospective, the cover, featuring Bieber with lipstick smudged on his neck and shirt, sold just 246,000 copies. That’s the lowest figure for a Vanity Fair issue since Will Smith was on the cover to promote his film Wild, Wild West back in 1999. The Bieber Edition was also one of the top three worst sellers for the magazine since Graydon Carter took over as VF editor-in-chief in 1992.

Ouch…The magazine’s bosses, however, are taking the embarrassment in stride.

“Who knew 12-year-olds didn’t buy magazines?” a Vanity Fair spokeswoman quipped following today’s report.

It’s beginning to look like The Banged Messiah’s got as much appeal with magazine readers as a day-old oatmeal. This isn’t the first time a Bieber cover performed poorly, the WWD report said. An Oct. 2010 Teen Vogue with him on the front sold approximately 12 percent fewer copies than the magazine’s average. The pop sensation also failed to move mega issues for PEOPLE.
