Katy Perry Sues Magazine Over Infidelity Claims
The Fireworks star filed the lawsuit today in Melbourne, Australia, just hours after arriving in the country for the latest leg of her world tour, reported Us magazine online.
Last month, the magazine NW claimed she had an “intimate relationship” with Benny Blanco, and as a result her marriage was in jeopardy.
The 26-year-old singer is now pursuing damages and could win a six-figure payout.
Her writ lodged at the Victoria Supreme Court against the mag’s publisher, ACP Magazines, says, “By reason of the publication of the article, the plaintiff (Perry) has been gravely injured in her reputation and feelings (and) has suffered distress, embarrassment and humiliation.”
The NW story quoted a ‘friend’ of Perry’s called Angela Summers and also a source called Marlon David. The singer has said that she does not know either person.
Perry, who married Russell Brand in a Hindu ceremony in India last October, says the magazine did not check the story with her and it has refused to apologise “although it was clearly inaccurate”.
