could have his house seized after failing to pony up a fine he incurred following a court battle over his highly-publicized concert cancellation in Ireland nearly three years ago. The tempermental “Let’s Go Crazy” star set off an epic legal battle when he jumped ship on his sold-out gig at Croke Park in Dublin just 13 days before the show in June 2008. He gave no explanation and left promoter MCD holding the bag when it came to refunding the 55,000 fans who’d purchased tickets.
The singer/songwriter/guitarist was ultimately sued by MCD and, in Feb. 2010, his legal team agreed to pay about more than $2 million in damages over the debacle. Fast forward 12 months. It turns out Prince and his people neglected to turn over the sum by the March 2010 deadline. This week, MCD was granted an order allowing it to pursue the 52-year-old singer’s assets — which includes his Minneapolis mansion. MCD has now filed papers in a US court to reclaim the initial settlement fee plus eight percent interest.
If the court rules in its favor, MCD could begin action to seize Prince’s home.
Prince — who is currently hosting a concert tour here in the States — has not commented on the suit.
