Vanessa Hudgens Shape Magazine April 2011

Nothing says “Eff U” to the ex like a bosom-and-ab-baring cover spot on a nationally-recognized magazine.

Former Disney cutie Vanessa Hudgens is no stranger to stripping off for a roving lenses (Did we say that?!) and the Beastly starlet flaunts her toned physique in a neutral-colored bikini on the April 2011 cover of fitness magazine Shape. Hudgens, 22, reveals that she once ate so much fast food that she struggled to get into one of her High School Musical costumes.

“I used to go to Cold Stone Creamery, get a tub of Butterfinger ice cream and eat it all before bedtime, and my fingers were permanently stained orange from Cheetos,” she says. “I almost couldn’t get my costume on,” she admits. “When I finally got it zipped up, my boobs were up to my chin! The director, Kenny Ortega, saw me and said: ‘Whoa, mamacita, look at you!’ And I was like: ‘I don’t know where this came from!’ But I knew. I lived on Hot Pockets and never touched vegetables; I needed to do something about my diet.”

These days, Baby V has adopted a more healthy approach to dining — and she’s got the super-toned bod to prove it.

“I like egg white omelettes with veggies or oatmeal with almonds and fruit,” Hudgens continued, sharing some of her favorite dishes for keeping the love handles away. “Lunch and dinner are usually a spinach salad with grilled chicken or salmon, Marcona almonds, feta, a little truffle oil and a dash of Himalayan sea salt. It’s my favorite meal. When you’re putting good stuff into your body, you feel so much better.”

Vanessa also swears by yoga, Pilates, and spinning.

Van also speaks frankly about ex-boyfriend Zac Efron, who Hudgens credits with helping her stay grounded. The sweethearts called it quits last December after five years of dating.

Vanessa blames the bust-up on long-distance.

“The relationship kept me grounded. And because I was with someone who knew me so well, I didn’t need to try to be someone that I’m not. Long-distance relationships are hard no matter what. When you don’t have face-to-face time, it’s just different. Having an iPhone helped but it wasn’t the same,” she said.

Hudgens has no regrets about their time together.

“We grew up together. It was nice to have someone share all those experiences with. It was good.”
