Emma Watson plans to return to Brown University
The 21-year-old actress – who put her studies at the US University on hold last year in order to concentrate on promoting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2′ – will enrol at the UK’s Oxford University in September, but she insists she will return to America in 2013 to complete her four-year liberal arts degree.
She said, “I haven’t left Brown. I’m still enrolled at Brown. But I’m doing my third year abroad I’m going to Oxford in the fall to study English for a year. I’ll go back to the States to do my last year. I took a semester off, but my credits actually count as an advance, so I’m no further behind. I’m still technically going into my third year.”
Emma, who is best known for playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, recently revealed she decided to study in the US in order to be “normal” for a while, which she felt she couldn’t do if she studied in Britain.
She explained, “I suddenly felt very claustrophobic. I thought, ‘I can’t stay here, I won’t be able to concentrate, I won’t be left alone.’ I don’t want to put a negative light on it, as if I was escaping or anything like that. I think I wanted to meet people my own age and just be normal for a bit.”
