Lindsay Lohan to Face Charges For Alleged Shoplifting

Lindsay Lohan will be charged on Wednesday with one count of felony grand theft for allegedly shoplifting a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store on January 22.

In a statement released to the press on Tuesday, January 8, Deputy District Attorney John Lynch, head deputy of the Airport Branch, said, "Lohan will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. at the Airport Superior Court, Department 144."

Lindsay is required to appear in person at the court.

Lindsay's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, denies any wrong doing on the part of her client.

If convicted, the 24-year-old troubled star faces several years in prison.

On February 2, following a complaint from the jewelry store owner, police obtained a warrant to search Lindsay Venice Beach home for the shoplifted item – a "one of a kind" necklace.

However, before the police could execute the search warrant the necklace was returned to the police station.

Sources close to Lindsay say she didn't steal the necklace: it was loaned to her and her stylist. After using it, Lindsay asked the stylist to return the necklace but the stylist didn't do so in time.

A source recently told People, "Lindsay's used to getting gifted items that are worth way more than that. And why would she steal a necklace? She has tons of jewelry and doesn't need any more."

Lindsay is already under investigation by Riverside County prosecutors for allegedly battering a Betty Ford employee during her recent stay at the clinic.

Over the past six months, Lindsay has been in and out of jail on two occasions and rehab also on two occasions, for violating the terms of her probation in a 2007 DUI case. She regained her freedom on January 3 after completing three months of court mandated rehab at the Betty Ford clinic.
