Miley Cyrus has been honored for her positive influence on the youth — just a month after teens themselves voted her Hollywood’s “Worst Influence on Young Women” for the second year running in an AOL poll.
The 18-year-old — whose wild public antics have left her estranged from her famous father, Billy Ray — was presented with the Global Action Youth Leadership Award by fellow former Disney starlet Hilary Duff during the Global Action Awards Gala on Friday. The award was in recognition of Cyrus’ work with the charity organization Blessings in a Backpack, the organization said. Miley is also chairwoman of her own charity initiative, the Get Ur Good On Campaign, which encourages teens to do something positive for their communities.
“I gotta tell you, I never thought I would get an award from Hilary Duff. This is like a dream come true for me, she inspired me. And now I’m here being able to inspire other kids. I’m very lucky and this is why I created Get Your Good On with Youth Service America,” Cyrus said during her acceptance speech.
