Oscar Winner Lands Contract With Atlantic Records

Sure she has a nice enough voice, but is Gwyneth Paltrow a rock star? Looks like we’re about to find out with the actress eyeing off a record deal.

The Oscar winner is reportedly set to sign a music deal with Warner Music-owned label Atlantic Records to produce a country album following her starring role as a Western crooner in the box office flop Country Strong.

“Gwyneth is a very different name for Atlantic, and one who brings a lot of recognition. Gwyneth’s agents have been talking to a number of labels about landing her a substantial record deal. Those who have heard the music say it’s country pop,” a spy close to discussions whispered in a leak to The New York Post. “Many labels would be reluctant to give a deal to a star whose first priority is film, but in recent weeks there have been discussions with Atlantic.”

With Paltrow showing off her vocal styling’s on Glee, upstaging The Muppets at the Grammys, and overemoting at the Oscars, it was only a matter of time before a label executive saw the dollar signs.

“We’re talking about it now,” Paltrow talked up a potential contract to Access Hollywood during last week’s Academy Awards. “So we’ll see.”

The actress also revealed her ideal singing partner would be none other than good pal Jay-Z.

“I think we’d be a good combination,” she told fashion guru Tim Gunn on the red carpet. “He is a genius – and I’m his biggest fan.”

For those not in-the-know, Paltrow, 38, is married to Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, which is signed to EMI.
