Jessica Simpson Holiday Album Flops On Charts As Clothing
Jessica Simpson has the Midas Touch when it comes to style, but fashion’s future first billionairess’ knack for designing killer handbags didn’t translate to mayjah sales for her recently released holiday album, Happy Christmas.
The album, which only received mixed reviews from music critics, opened to an even more lukewarm reception from fans. Despite a heavy promotional schedule, which included a PBS TV special, the disc debuted at #123 with sales of just 10,000 on last week’s Billboard chart. Compare that to the reign of Susan Boyle’s The Gift and Mariah Carey’s Top 5 debut for Merry Christmas II You, and you get the picture.
We suppose all’s well that ends well. With her recording career in the crapper, Jess is now free to devote all of her crooning time to cranking out stiletto and jeggings skin-tight enough to make you slap your mama! The web was set on its ear when Fashion Bible Women’s Wear Daily dished that Jess has quietly been building a clothing empire that is expected to turn her into fashion’s first billionaire designer. Simpson’s Jessica Simpson Collection, which launched in 2007 with designs for everything from swimwear to footwear to clothing, has notched up $750 million in sales this year and that figure is set to surge to $1 billion in 2011.
