Socialite heiress Paris Hilton, a longtime target of animal rights advocates for her penchant for purchasing pets from pet shops and breeders, has adopted a new dog from The Animal Foundation Shelter in Las Vegas.
Paris is being hailed by the same dog lovers who once shunned her now that she’s given a home to a homeless Chihuahua. It costs $155 to adopt a small dog, like a Chihuahua, from The Animal Foundation. The fee includes immunizations, spaying/neutering, microchip identification, and a complimentary bag of Science Diet dog food.
The reality personality is now urging her fans (Wait — Paris still has fans?) to adopt, rather than purchase, their furry friends.
“This Chirstmas if your thinking of getting a dog or cat, get one at your local animal shelter. Save a Life. Don’t Shop, Adopt,” she Tweeted to followers online on Thursday. Paris also retweeted a message posted by the organization, which read: “RT @animalfndlv: @ParisHilton helps shelter animals. Adopts 3yo chihuahua from Vegas.” The post included an image of a smiling Paris cuddling her new pooch shortly after he’d been neutered.
Hilton’s new canine friend joins her numerous other animals, which include several other teacup-sized dogs, a hamster, and a miniature pig.
