Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz in Custody War

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz maybe headed for a custody war over their 2-year-old son Bronx, going by Pete's response to Ashlee's divorce filing.

While filing divorce documents in early February, Ashlee, 26, had sought primary physical custody of Bronx, as well legal fees from Pete.

In his response filed on Tuesday, March 8, Pete, 31, has sought joint physical and legal custody. He also want each party to foot their own legal bills.

Pete's response says the couple separated on February 9.

While announcing their divorce the former couple had said in a joint statement, "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority."

It is moot if the contradictory divorce filings are indicative of a serious custody dispute brewing up, because the forms used for initial filing lack detail and require parties to check one of several options.

A source close to Wentz told People.com, "There's no fire. It's a very straightforward response asking for joint custody and fair distribution of attorney's fees. He's not gearing up for a custody war."
