Rihanna played demure on the red carpet in a red Elie Saab long sleeve lace gown at the 2010 American Music Awards in LA on November 21, but unabashedly sexed it up for her performance later.
Rihanna won the Soul/R&B Female Artist award at the event.
Rihanna's Elie Saab Fall 2010 Couture gown had a bateau neckline, fitted top and full skirt. She fine tuned her hair color to a subtle shade of red, almost matching her dress. Her hair was styled in voluminous ringlets. Rihanna wore long eye lash extensions, cat eye-liner, lime green eye shadow and neutral lip gloss. Rihana was the opening act at the awards night and her performance was truly awe inspiring. She started by singing "Love the Way You Lie Part II" with an elaborated stage setting. She perched atop a branch of a stylized tree standing in the midst of tall grass. The tree's dried, leafless branches and the blades of the grass were shaped like spikes, which eerily pierced the starry night sky; an ominous blend of tranquility and imminent danger. At the end of the song, she slid down from her perch and disappeared, only to reappear on stage from behind thick fog, belting out "What's My Name?" During the brief disappearance she went sartorially minimalistic and for the rest of her performance was attired in a black-and-white bra top and boy short panties. She started solo but was soon joined on the calypso themed stage by dancers in short skirts. Rihanna went on to perform 'Only Girl in the World,' with flames and tribal drummers adding to the intensity and high energy levels of her performance. She ended her nearly eight minute long breathtaking performances to a standing ovation. Rihanna was nominated for Favorite Female Artist along with Alicia Keys and Rihanna was the winner.
