We’ve all heard how anxious Jessica Simpson is to run — not walk — back to the altar, but is the singer/actress/designer so desperate to be a Newlywed once more that she forked over the dough for her own engagement ring?
On Sunday, reps for Simpson announced that she is set to take a second trip down the aisle after her boyfriend, newly-divorced former NFL player Eric Johnson, popped the question last week after six months of dating. The news came on the heels of a similar announcement from Jessica’s ex, singer Nick Lachey. He recently proposed to girlfriend of four years Vanessa Minnillo.
In the last few days, Simpson has been spotted flashing a $100,000 ruby-and-diamond engagement sparkler designed by celebrity jeweller Neil Lane. But now a friend of the star claims it is likely the singer purchased the four-carat bling herself.
After all, Eric’s so broke, her couldn’t even afford to pay for business school!
“No way could Eric, who doesn’t have a job at the moment, afford to purchase such an expensive ring,” a Simpson informant divulged to PopEater.com’s Naughty But Nice Column this week. “Yes, he made a little bit of money in the NFL and is from a wealthy family, but unless his parents helped him out, Jessica must have paid for it herself.”
Friends of The Price of Beauty star are also reportedly fretting about her $100 milllion fortune after Simpson refused to ask Johnson to sign a prenup.
“First, we find out that Jessica doesn’t want to have a prenup, and now we find out that she might have paid for her own ring. It just doesn’t feel right to me,” a frantic family friend worries. “We all want Jessica to be happy and finally find true love after all she has been through, but she doesn’t understand that in the long run if she pays for everything it will hurt her relationship with any man.”
