In Yamla Pagla Deewana, Sunny Deol stumbled upon his rather crooked roots in Varanasi, and with the film's success he has now rediscovered his roots as an action star.
Sunny made his mark in Bollywood with raw action films, such as Ghayal (1991) and Gadar (2002). Lately, he had started to experiment with more diverse roles in films such as Right Yaa Wrong (2010), Fox (2009) and Heroes (2008).
Despite his perfect comic timing and mischievous Deol eyes, Sunny yearns to return to action roles.
"I had veered away from doing what I was best at. But I have realized that doing movies like Ghayal is what I am best suited for."
"I am looking at doing an actioner now. That's what I am waiting for again."
Admittedly, Yamla Pagla Deewana was a comedy, but its box office success in the north, and its birthing of a franchise, will ensure a steady cash flow for the Deols for many years to come, allowing them to go back to what they do best, which in the case of Sunny is action films.
But the Deols are not giving up on comedy.
"There is already talk of having a sequel. Acting with my father and brother has proved lucky for me," says Sunny [via Mid Day].
Sunny is currently filming for a Radhika Rao romcom with co-stars Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan.
